Free hands-on music experiences for children & youth
Every musician starts somewhere.
Sometimes it’s in a school music room. Sometimes it’s around a campfire. Sometimes it’s by picking up an instrument for the very first time.
Beginning Saturday, August 1, Peterborough Musicfest is creating more of those first moments with the launch of First Note, a new free program designed to introduce children and youth to the joy of making music.
Before four August concerts, young people are invited to drop into Del Crary Park and try a variety of musical instruments in a fun, welcoming environment. Whether it’s a guitar, keyboard, percussion or another instrument, First Note is all about exploration, curiosity and creativity.
No registration needed.
No experience required.
Just an opportunity to discover what music feels like when you create it yourself.
The program was made possible through the generous support of the Peterborough Foundation, with instruments provided by Long & McQuade.
As Executive Director Tracey Randall often says, “Where’s our next Serena Ryder?”
It might be a child who has never held a guitar before.
It might be someone who discovers a love of rhythm after trying a drum for the first time.
Or it might simply be a young person who leaves Del Crary Park excited to keep making music.
That’s what First Note is all about.
