Long before Vancouver’s Said The Whale became a radio chart-topping band, it was an exploratory songwriting experiment led by high school friends Tyler Bancroft and Ben Worcester. Now more than a decade since its 2007 formation and debut album Taking Albania,Said The Whale has taken that project back to its roots while simultaneously venturing forward into uncharted art-pop territory.
Said The Whale – guitarists Bancroft and Worcester with keyboardist Jaycelyn Brown – arrive in Peterborough on the heels of the February release of Cascadia, its sixth studio album, and the new album’s first single Record Shop.
Recipient of the New Group of the Year statue at the 2011 Juno Awards, Said The Whale’s studio work has highlighted the contrast between Bancroft’s eclectic rock influences and Worcester’s folksiness, their distinct styles meshing to become one.
Prior to the release of Cascadia,2017 album As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide was the most focused of the band’s recorded efforts, spawning three Canadian chart-placing singles – Step Into The Darkness, I Will Follow Youand Nothing Makes Me Happy. Earlier commercial success came the band’s way in 2013 with the chart topping single I Love You.
